this cannot go on, the united states having half trillion, $700 billion deficits. it is not secure for the united states to let the chinese have $3 trillion worth of foreign currency. there is a national security problem. and we can all make fun of them about the fact that ourporting . a great power cannot only make 55% of its steel, must have a steel industry for mobilization purposes and national security. donald trump may take it too far. he may be inartful. he may act like a clown. but it is not fair to say there is not a fundamental problem there. it s great that the president is taking this head on without a doubt. is he doing it in the right way? i m inclined to agree with you, senator. i think that there was absolutely a problem with china. and there has been for two decades. the genius of the trump campaign is they recognized there was deep anger about the way we traded with china for a decade and a half. we saw that, we recognized that.
that we can t predict what the consequences will be, but it won t be good if this is how we choose to treat people. i hope the congressmen and senators come in and find and overall solution to this. as the economy gets better, nation gets prosperous as it is now, more people are going to want to come here legally and illegally. it s coming. it would be a good idea to fix this, the failures cannot go on. scott, this particular i just want to know one thing, this particular policy, the president can do something about it. he can say, look, we need to stop this policy of ripping children away from their parents. the trump administration can do this on their own without anyone else because they did it, insisted insist ed on the policy. why wait on congress to do something? the issue, if you look the the 30,000 foot level, it s lush how polarized we ve become. we don t even know what to do with children at the border. just because you can do something, doesn t mean you
that got attention online, making the case, simplifying herings but there could be a reason the 1500 children, can t be found right now. they may not want to be found. sponsors could be concerned. that brings up the point of the legal responsibility versus moral responsibility here. is the outrage concerning the 1500 children, is it misplaced? i don t so, no, i don t think the outrage ismisplaced. folks are concerned about youth the u.s. government cannot find. take a step back and look. the current administration has a hostile policy towards undocumented individuals. it s not out of the realm of possibility to think that folks who are that may, in fact, be undocumented, who have some of the children in their care, do not want the united states government to find out where they are, and if anyone looks at the threat, the twitter threat, note that the office of refugee resettlement, calling to verify where the people were, that s
i can t believe that the president has successfully diverted us from saying zero is what should have been to well, if you re going to have the meeting then there should have only been one instead of two. but two makes it completely awful. i cannot believe that congress stood up to this, that there isn t a republican with a spine who will say enough is enough and this cannot go on. this is completely disstruckive of an investigation and frankly of democracy. this should not be happening. it s terrible. ron klain you worked on the senate judiciary committee, the justice department department, your perspective on these meetings today? nothing like this has happened before but it goes to the point you made at the outset, lawrence. we don t have a videotape of the meeting but it wouldn t surprise me at the end if as kelly and flood said to the republicans call me later and tell me what happened because that is the
