SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. – The City of South Lake Tahoe has begun phase one of converting pedestrian lights along the US 50 corridor to dark sky-compliant light fixtures. These new lights restrict upward-directed light, have a low color temperature, and reduce the impact of light in the night sky.

Half of Howard County’s public elementary schools and three of its middle schools were designated as “constrained” by the school board last week, meaning they are projected to be over capacity for enrollment in the 2026-2027 school year and residential development in the surrounding areas will be limited. No high schools made the list.

Originally scheduled to begin in late fall 2022, the project was put on hold due to early snow fall.
