Alberta will receive $627 million, over five years, from Ottawa to spend on improving health care for seniors, federal and provincial government officials announced Thursday.

A new Aging with Dignity funding agreement with the federal government will enhance Alberta’s continuing care transformation efforts to support Albertans as they age.  

The Government of Alberta and federal government will work together to help improve home care and continuing care initiatives across the province.

Budget 2023 ensures continuing care residents live in modern buildings and in their own private spaces, where they will receive the personalized care and supports they need.

Budget 2023 provides ongoing funding for Indigenous people to build continuing care spaces that would provide culturally appropriate care. 

Nearly $4.3 billion in funding will strengthen the delivery of continuing care programs and services for Albertans.

Budget 2023 secures Alberta’s future by improving the health-care system to provide Albertans with reliable, quality health services when and where they need them.

Eligible operators can apply for a one-time grant through the Continuing Care Capital Program to replace, upgrade or renovate existing aged continuing care homes.

Alberta would be the only Canadian jurisdiction with one overarching piece of legislation for its entire continuing care system under a proposed new bill.

Almost $3.7 billion, a 6.3 per cent increase over last year, will expand continuing care programs and services for seniors and vulnerable Albertans.
