starting to put their voices up on this reconciliation bill. aoc actually this week has been very vocal of the fact that the bipartisan bill just hasn t it hasn t had even people of color at the table, so that s been a big issue of hers. they want to make sure this reconciliation bill includes a lot of the things that they re not ncessarily seeing like the human infrastructure. immigration, more climate provisions, things like that. andy, carl holtz at the new york times wrote today that many of the wild cards in these negotiations fundamentally have have to do with trust. quote, the continuing struggle to hash out the legislation exposes a broader problem. a nagging suspicion that their colleagues were not acting in good faith. each side harbors deep doubts about the true motives of the other, making it increasingly difficult for lawmakers to take the leap and get behind big bills as they warily eye one another across the aisle.
first, talk to me about that dynamic and how much is looking at each other across the aisle and how much of this is actually intraparty them not trusting one another? alicia, i think it s both here. i think you saw that in carl s story, and i hear that, and i m sure my colleagues hear on the show hear the same thing. when you would go around the hill five, ten years ago, obviously, in public, there s this sort of gamesmanship, almost this sort of pro wrestling partisan script that the members would follow, but behind closed doors and when the staffs would talk to each other, they would still try to get something done. they still believed in some larger project that they had taken these jobs, they had gotten elected to these positions to get things done. when i walk around the hill now, i don t hear that. and kevin mccarthy s comment that we talked about a second ago is emblematic of that but by no means the first instance of this. you hear a sort of tension, an edge between the parti
