A West Palm Beach law firm announced the details involving a settlement following the death of a 79-year-old woman who died after a drawbridge suddenly opened up while she was walking across it.

The attorney representing Carol Wright’s family, Lance Ivey, announced on Friday that the wrongful death lawsuit was settled for $8.3 million and extensive safety changes for drawbridge operators.

A case involving a 79-year-old woman who fell off the Royal Park Bridge in West Palm Beach and died in February has now closed. Wright's family attorney, Lance Ivey, announced a more than $8 million settlement that comes with corporate changes for Florida Drawbridges Inc. and a scholarship for University of Miami students in Wright's name.
