New information has been discovered on the bridge tender who was on duty when a 79-year-old West Palm Beach woman plummeted to her death when a state-owned bridge opened while she crossed it.  

Records requested and obtained by Contact 5 show Palm Beach County terminated eight bridge tenders over the last five years, including one for sleeping with pillows and a bed sheet while on duty at a Jupiter bridge.

The man told police he was riding his bicycle, stopped for 30 seconds and then realized the bridge was going up as he heard warning bells.

A Florida driver became trapped in the middle of a drawbridge as it was lifted, his car tilting at a perpendicular angle to the road as he sat helplessly inside.

Video obtained by Contact 5 shows a car drive on the Lantana bridge over the Intracoastal Waterway as the gate closes behind it. Thirty-three seconds later, the drawbridge begins to open with the car on it.

Carol Wright, 79, was crossing the Royal Park Bridge, which links Palm Beach to West Palm Beach, when the bridge started to open. She couldn’t get off and fell to her death.
