MARS HILL - The Mars Hill Police Department welcomed a new chief earlier this month, and he is no stranger to the department. Jon Clark, who has served with MHPD since 2016 and had been the acting chief since Feb. 1, officially started in his new role on March 1.
Clark assumes the role vacated by Michael Garrison, who served as police chief from 2015. Garrison retired from town service on Jan. 31 after more than 20 years in law enforcement.
Mars Hill Town Manager Nathan Bennett said he identified Clark as Garrison s replacement when Garrison announced in the fall his intention to retire in late January.
