Today is Veterans’ Day: a day to commemorate the men and women of the Armed Forces that have fought, and possibly died, for our country. Thank you for your service. Several places around town are offering something special for our Veterans today: free coffee, free breakfast, free lunch, etc. You’ll need to bring proof of service.

Summer is holding on for dear life, and sending a miniature heat wave our way for this long weekend. For those of you not in Black Rock City, the Carson City region offers plenty of recreation and entertainment.

Whoo-hoo Wednesday. June First brings the inaugural Wednesday Evening Farmers Market to downtown. Look for it at Third Street after 4 p.m. The Battle of the Badges Blood Drive is at the Community Center: the Sheriff’s Office vs. the Fire Department.

Memorial Day weekend is often thought of as the kick-off to summer, but in Northern Nevada we know that the weather is a fickle creature. The weather should be dryer and warmer as the weekend progresses but have back-up plans for your bar-be-que, just in case.

Welcome to Wednesday, Carson City. One day closer to the weekend, and one day closer to June. Carson City truly shines in the summertime with events like the Taste of Downtown, Blinky Man, and the Fathers’ Day Powwow at the Stewart Indian School. New to hit downtown this year is Battleborn Brews, Bikes, and Bubbly: sure to be a fun time.

Happy Wednesday, Carson City. The long holiday weekend is over, but you can keep the good times rolling. The Fox Brewpub is hosting their monthly Whiskey Wednesday tonight, complete with raffle prizes and of course, whiskey.

Summer is in full blaze out there. Treat yourself to something cold at Dairy Queen; their Miracle Treat Day donates a dollar per Blizzard to the Miracle Children’s Hospitals. See what the talented kids of Strings in the Schools have been up to this summer at their free concert inside the Carson Mall.

There will be some tales told today. The Dayton Historical Society had to postpone the last lecture in their May series until tonight, so you still have a chance to hear Karen Howe’s presentation on the Dayton Cemetery and who you’ll find there.

It’s not lions and tigers and bears down at Fuji Park, it’s bunnies and chickens, lambs and calves. The Carson City Fair has returned and it’s bringing all the excitement that one can expect from a down-home event.

There are multiple ways to say farewell to summer this weekend. The Best in the West Rib Cook-off is a local favorite, as is the Fallon Cantaloupe Festival. It has finally cooled down a little, so the Downtown Carson Wine Walk is a perfect way to spend an afternoon. Keep reading and have a great time. SATURDAY:
