In honor of the 10th annual Holiday with a Hero shopping spree for children in need this year, organizers are asking businesses and community members to spend the next 10 weeks helping to make it happen.

CARSON CITY – Federal government efforts to create jobs through stimulus funding have expanded to encompass an urban Clark County tree planting effort and related activities, including tree care training for Spanish-speaking workers.

The Carson City Sheriff’s Office is investigating a break-in that happened sometime overnight or early Tuesday morning at the Subway restaurant at the north end of Carson City.

A back to school bash Wednesday at the Boys and Girls Clubs of Western Nevada turned out to be a big end-of-summer safety splash for its members.

UPDATE: Fire is out. How it started is under investigation. *** Carson City Fire Department was called Tuesday night to a brush fire in the area of Brown and Gordon streets that was threatening structures.

UPDATE MONDAY: The Nevada Highway Patrol has identified the two people critically injured in motorcycle crash Saturday night in Carson City. The are Andrey L. Gallegos, 20, of Sparks, who was the driver of the motorcycle and passenger Audrey G. Rugamas, 21, of South Lake Tahoe. Go here for the updated story. ****

City Supervisors on Thursday agreed to a new four year labor contract between Carson City Firefighters and the City that is a substantial departure from previous contracts.

The Meeker County Sheriff's office said charges of first-degree arson and third-degree burglary were filed against 46-year-old Barry Alan Klingelhoets.

A 48-year-old Carson City woman was arrested in the 3100 block of Highway 50 E. Friday night for felony suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon and domestic battery first. Shannon Rae Atkins was arrested after deputies received a report of a battery that occurred between Atkins and her business partner.
