CARSON CITY – With Gov. Jim Gibbons dissenting, the Board of Prisons yesterday delayed action on a proposal to close Nevada State Prison, meaning it will continue to operate for at least the next several weeks.

Carson City schools are on a one-hour delay Friday morning, according to the Carson City School District web site, following significant snowfall Thursday that partially melted and then froze overnight.

Jason Cloutier, 35, was sentenced to life in prison Tuesday for the DUI crash that killed two in June, 2013. Sierra Woodward, 26, of Carson City and Mark Flora, 59, of Texas, died when his car hit Flora’s vehicle head-on on Highway 50 near Centennial Park.

Carson City sheriffs deputies arrested a man in the 3000 block of Bonnyview near Cherry Creek Apartments at around 9 a.m. Thursday morning. The man had been seen running with an ax. No injuries were reported. The man was described by witnesses as running with an ax and wearing black clothes, 61, 230 pounds and having long black hair.
