AHA, foundation donate infant CPR kits to Carteret Health Care

MOREHEAD CITY — With support from the Byrd Family Foundation, the American Heart Association will provide 160 Infant CPR Anytime training kits to Carteret Health Care in Morehead City to be distributed to parents of newborns. The Infant CPR Anytime kits will be given to parents of pre-term and high-risk newborns delivered at CHC to ensure they are able to return home with the confidence to handle any emergency that may arise. “This donation from the American Heart Association and Byrd Family Foundation is very beneficial because we provide so much education in such a short time to all our parents prior to discharge. Carteret County reports 25th COVID-19 death

CARTERET COUNTY — Carteret County health officials announced Monday another resident recently died from complications associated with COVID-19, bringing the county’s death toll to 25. In a release sent Monday afternoon, the county said the individual died Saturday. The person was in their 70s and reportedly had preexisting health conditions. “The Health Department extends our condolences to the family and loved ones of this resident,” Health Director Stephanie Cannon said in the release. “As the early stages of the (COVID-19) vaccine distribution begins, it is important to continue to practice the 3W’s to lower the changes of you and your loved ones contracting COVID-19,” wearing a mask when around others, waiting 6 feet apart and washing hands often.

Carteret health department receives first shipment of COVID-19 vaccines Monday

CARTERET COUNTY — The Carteret County Health Department received its first shipment of COVID-19 vaccines Monday and will soon begin distributing it to those with the highest risk of exposure to the coronavirus. The health department received 100 initial doses of the Moderna COVID-19 vaccine. In a release, the county said it is following guidance from the N.C. Department of Health and Human Services for distribution and vaccination order. Vaccinations will first be administered to those who fall under Phase 1a of the state’s vaccination plan, which includes health care workers and staff and residents of long-term care facilities. County health officials said vaccination of other groups will not begin until they are confident all Phase 1a vaccinations are complete. No appointments remain for the current limited supply of vaccines. Carteret County adds 45 COVID-19 cases Friday

CARTERET COUNTY — Health officials reported 45 new cases of COVID-19 were confirmed in Carteret County Friday, though the number of active cases dropped slightly from Thursday down to 390. The new cases bring Carteret County’s overall total to 2,569 documented cases since March. Of those, the county reports 2,154 people have recovered and 24 have died. The number of COVID-19 patients hospitalized at Carteret Health Care in Morehead City remained at 15 for the second day after hitting a record high of 16 earlier in the week. Meanwhile, the Carteret County public school system has reported eight additional COVID-19 cases, bringing the total number of confirmed cases connected to schools to 125 as of Friday afternoon. The newest cases were reported Wednesday and Thursday at White Oak Elementary School, three cases; West Carteret High School, two; Croatan High School, one; Newport Elementary School, one; and Morehead City Middle School, one.
