ALBANY — For 12 years, a state funding line that’s meant to help town, village and city governments cover their annual costs has not been increased by a single cent,
Residents and small businesses throughout Northern New York could save money on their energy needs by encouraging their municipal governments to make use of a state initiative.
CHAMPION â In order to reach a corner of their coverage area and reduce response times, the Carthage Area Rescue Squad will staff the West Carthage Fire Department Station 2 with two part-timers starting May 1.
The ambulance squad which covers the towns of Champion and Wilna has mutual aid from the Natural Bridge and Harrisville ambulances on the northern part of the coverage area. To the west, Lewis County Search and Rescue provides aid in coverage. In the south eastern section, there has not been that overlay.
âIf we are in Carthage and have a call in that area if could be a 25-minute response time,â CARS Chief Amanda Henry said.
CARTHAGE â In keeping with Gov. Andrew M. Cuomoâs Executive Order 203, local village police forces have developed police reform policies.
In June, Gov. Cuomo signed an executive order requiring local governments to create and adopt a police reform plan by April 1, which must be submitted to the state. Municipalities that do not comply with the mandate risk losing state funding. The order came about in response to the May 25 killing of 46-year-old Black man George P. Floyd by Minneapolis police.
Plans must be developed in collaboration with the public through an âopen process on policing strategies and toolsâ and receive public comment before being presented to local municipal bodies for approval.
