The US reported its first monkeypox case on May 18 and now has more than 5800 confirmed infections, according to the latest CDC data, with 1390 in New York, 827 in California, and 520 in Illinois.

The monkeypox outbreak has led officials in states and cities to declare public health emergencies.

Hospitalizations have been steadily increasing, with nearly 45,000 COVID-19 patients in hospitals across the country.

The US has reported 3590 known monkeypox cases, falling just behind Spains 3738 cases.

One week after health officials reported an uptick in COVID-19 cases in San Luis Obispo County, they say cases have gone down slightly.
