Kevin Bickner, Patrick Gasienica and Casey Larson, who all have ties to Norge Ski Club in Fox River Grove, are heading to Beijing to compete as members of the U.S. Olympic Ski Jumping Team.

Dr. Lauren Borowski is off for China as the head doctor for the U.S. Ski Jumping team, and she’s just as thrilled as any of the athletes under her care as Friday’s Opening Ceremony looms inside the National Stadium.

At the Beijing Games, the Norwegian had a chance to become the first two-time Olympic champion in her sport. Instead, she decided to skip the World Cup season and a trip to China for the Olympics in order to make her physical and mental health a priority.

Suburban winter sports fans can get a head start on the Olympics this weekend as the Norge Ski Club holds its 117th annual Winter Ski Jump Tournament in Fox River Grove. After being limited to 1,000 people last year, organizers expect 6,000 to 8,000 visitors to descend on the village this weekend to watch the jumpers.
