Avadene Brown

Saturday, February 27, 2021 9:58 pm Avadene Brown, 95, was called home to be with her Lord and Savior on Friday, Feb. 26, 2021.  She was born May 12, 1925, in Haywood County, N.C. , to Jerry Levi and Estelle Brookes Hipps.  Avadene graduated from high school in 1942 from the Church of God Bible Training School (later moved and renamed Lee College) in Sevierville.  Upon graduation, she was employed a few years by Champion Paper and Fiber Company in Canton, N.C.  After her marriage to Robert W. Brown in 1945, they made their home in Canton, N.C.  Their early years of marriage were centered around raising their two children, Ed and Bobbie, in a loving Christian home and being actively involved in their church. They were a dedicated couple working closely together in every aspect of their lives. 

Realtor s small fundraiser turns into moving van full of gifts for area care centers

Cassidy Harris sits on the back end of a moving van, which she filled with gifts that were donated to give to the IOOF Home and Community Therapy Center and Heritage Care & Rehabilitation Center. Gunnar Davis Christmas and the holiday season is meant for giving, receiving and spending time with the ones you love. However, not everyone gets to do those three things. Even in normal circumstances, some folks at nursing homes and care centers don’t get to see their families very often. This Christmas season, restrictions and precautions due to COVID-19 make the holidays even tougher. Cassidy Harris, a realtor in Mason City, saw an opportunity to make the holiday season a little brighter for the IOOF Home and Community Therapy Center and the Heritage Care and Rehabilitation Center by donating gifts.

On Monday afternoon, those presents were officially donated to the residents and staff at the IOOF Home and the Heritage Care & Rehabilitation Center.
