Tragedy struck the Caterpillar Mapleton Foundry in Illinois last Thursday, June 2, after employee Steven Dierkes plunged to his death while working. The dad of 3 tripped and fell into a vat of molten iron which had a temperature of almost 1,500 degrees Celsius, causing his body to split in half.
