Looking at swimwear being policed in the 50s, you might think we’ve come a long way as a society.
Case in point? The following Instagram image, posted in October 2020, showing, “A police officer issuing a woman a ticket for wearing a bikini on a beach at Rimini, Italy, in 1957,” according to the caption.
A woman's claim of being stopped from boarding her Virgin Australia flight as the pilot said that her outfit was ‘showing too much skin’ has led to outrage among social media users.

Adelaide: A woman was left shocked when she was told that she would not be able to board her Virgin Australia flight as her top was showing "too much skin". Catherine Bampton, 23, was waiting to board the flight from Adelaide for Gold Coast on Wednesday when a ground crew approached her.
Catherine, from Gold Coast, said she was "publicly embarrassed" by the female staff of the airline.
"She told me in front of everyone that the pilot was refusing for me to board the plane because of the clothes I was wearing," Catherine was quoted as saying by news.com.au. "I was in so much shock and was so confused because my clothes weren’t revealing."
Catherine Bampton, 23, claims an airline staffer at Adelaide airport told her she would be unable to board her flight home to the Gold Coast on Wednesday morning because of her top.
