New Delhi:An estimated 20,507,518 life years have so far been lost due to covid-19 across 81 countries, including India, with an average of 16 years for every person, according to a report published in the Scientific Reports (Nature Research) journal. The years of life lost (YLL) is the difference between a person’s age at the time of death and his or her life expectancy.
The scientists conducted an analysis based on estimated excess deaths. As on 6 January, the study said the YLL because of the pandemic has been 2-9 times greater than the mean YLL associated with seasonal flu and 25-50% higher than the YLL attributable to heart disease.
