A BRAVE teen who battled Covid pneumonia in intensive care has defied the odds to reach his 16th birthday. The family of Taylor Smith was told to ‘expect the worst’ as he fought Covid pneumonia for three weeks in January at Manchester Children’s Hospital. The Barrovian was diagnosed with Niemann-Pick disease type C when he was just a baby and his family were warned his life-limiting condition could mean he might never see his 13th birthday. Niemann-Pick disease type C (NPC) is a rare progressive genetic disorder characterised by an inability of the body to transport cholesterol and other fatty substances inside of cells.
THE 2021 lineup for a south Cumbria music festival begun in memory of a popular dad has been revealed - and is bigger and better than ever. More than 30 acts will perform at this year’s Fudstock - the most since the event’s inception in 2018. And Jayne Moorby, one of the organisers, said this year’s festival was also set to feature its biggest ever headliners, including American DJ Todd Terry. “We wanted Fudstock to be about community cohesion, an opportunity for people to come together,” said Mrs Moorby. “It’s a massive opportunity for the people in Barrow to have access to some of the world-leading acts in their own town.”
