Friends and neighbors of an elderly couple killed in a Stuart double shooting Saturday are now mourning their loss.

A Martin County woman called 911 on her own husband, Hugh Hootman, who detectives said had just shot his downstairs neighbors.

Some residents are concerned the city of Stuart's small-town charm is diminishing after three shootings happening in less than 24 hours.

Martin County detectives said an "ongoing dispute" between neighbors ended with an elderly couple gunned down over the weekend.

The Martin County Sheriff's Office said a person is in custody after a double homicide Saturday evening.

A Massachusetts-based developer, Dakota Partners, has closed on its ninth project in Connecticut, a multifamily development that is expected to fill an affordable housing void in Newington. The company earlier this month purchased the property at  550 Cedar St., from Stop & Shop for $1.7 million. Cedar Pointe will consist of 108 residential units that will be constructed in two phases.
