A Full Bench of the Punjab and Haryana High Court has ruled that the State of Haryana could not have acted beyond the statutory provisions contained in a Central Act and the rules framed under it by making experience an essential qualification for appointment of drug inspectors.

Ahead of college admissions, University Grants Commission (UGC) chairman M Jagadesh Kumar has warned students against ‘fake’ universities —institutions  not established as per UGC Act but offer degrees in contravention of stated provisions—operating in the country.

The UT Administration is proceeding with admissions to various courses at the Government Medical College and Hospital, Sector 32, without OBC reservation, till the time it gets a response from the Centre.

UGC has released a list of 21 fake universities that are functioning in India right now. As per the list, Delhi has 8, followed by Uttar Pradesh with 4.

As many as eight institutions from Delhi have been named on the list of self-styled and unrecognised institutions.

University Grants Commission has issued a list of 21 self-styled, unrecognized institutions which are functioning in contravention of the UGC Act, that have been declared as fake universities and is not empowered to confer any degree.

According to the UGC, the second highest number of fake universities have been found in Uttar Pradesh.
