there have been hundreds of rescues in some of the areas hardest hit by the storm. the coast guard has been out in force pulling people from flooded homes in neighborhoods as well. chad myers is standing by at the weather center. first, though, let s go to where the storm is headed next in charleston, south carolina, bracing for ian s arrival, miguel. reporter: i want to show you what s going on here right now. we re right in between two bends. it was deteriorating all morning long and now the weather has actually improved a little bit, but in the next hour or two, we expect things to worsen quite a bit. it s been here all morning long. just a couple hours ago, it was low tide, you could see the
in downtown dallas overnight rescue crews pulled people from flooded cars. other drivers swam to safety. this is after heavy rain flooded the interstate. rushing water set down lane after lane as dallas received a summer s worth of rain in less than 24 hours. it seems like this has become an almost regular event. chad myers is standing by. let s begin with ed lavandera in dallas. some of those people lucky to escape with their lives. oh, it s been a brutal overnight hours. we re standing over interstate 30. these are the eastbound lanes where the traffic has been a congested issue because of the high water in places. really slowing things down. you see the westbound lanes, it s much thinner traffic because there s water problems just down the road that way. but this is what the city is

[ speaking in foreign language ] florida governor rick scott sounding pretty dire. it s here. it s deadly. we ve never seen anything like it. and as making a call, a one alarm being sounded for nurses to assist at those evacuation shelters. meteorologist chad myers is standing by, chad, what did you take away from the governor s briefing? i think that the governor believes the state of florida is prepared. i think he believes the stragglers are going to be on their own. and that clad, my apologies, i m going to ask you to hold that thought. because the governor is now taking questions. so, let s dip into that. i talked to the white house.
