National Elections Board (JNE) Chairman Jorge Luis Salas has ensured that he will unrestrictedly respect the popular will of the electorate in the presidential runoff election scheduled for June 6.
Salas affirmed that, during his many years as supreme judge, his most remarkable quality was his impartiality, adding that he was elected as head of the JNE by his peers and not as a result of political favors of any kind.
In this sense, he guarantees an impartial process during the June 6 election, as in the first round of voting.
"The National Elections Board (JNE) is going to proceed properly, by respecting unrestrictedly the popular will," he said in remarks to RPP radio and TV station.

"The National Elections Board, in its capacity as the country's highest autonomous electoral body, ensures that this is and will be a free, democratic, and transparent process," he stated.
"In this sense, we express our rejection of disqualification of the institution's work and personal actions as an attempt to question the legitimacy of the process," Salas added.
The JNE's head noted that Peruvians will witness a clean electoral process, and to that end, representatives of international organizations are observing the process for the runoff election.

National Elections Board (JNE) Chairman Jorge Luis Salas on Friday affirmed that on April 11 all Peruvians have an appointment with the country's history and must go to vote in an orderly manner, respecting biosafety protocols to face the COVID-19 pandemic.
Likewise, the official said that they must go to the polls with the certainty that each citizen's voting power will contribute to the country's growth and aggrandizement.
"Let's vote reasonably thinking about the family, thinking about the future. Let it be for the sake of Peru," the electoral authority expressed in a message addressed to all eligible voters.

National Elections Board (JNE) Chairman Jorge Luis Salas on Tuesday affirmed that the dates set out in the electoral calendar for the 2021 general elections in Peru must be respected.
"The dates set out in the electoral calendar must be respected, that is the commitment that the JNE and authorities in the country have made," Salas said during the installation ceremony of the Tribunal of Honor of the Electoral Ethical Pact.
The electoral authority hoped that the autonomous work of the Tribunal of Honor would contribute to continue cementing democracy and that public opinion, as well as citizens, would recognize its efforts.

In this sense, the electoral authority indicated that arranging, organizing, and conducting these discussions is a matter of interest for the board.
"These will be held on the last Sunday of March and the first Sunday of April, in two parts, since it seems like there will be several candidates for the Presidency (…)," he told RPP radio and TV station.
The official informed that it will be reasonable to draw the participants' names in order to decide to which group each of them will belong.

The electoral authority deemed as "very important" what the Executive Branch indicated, meaning that there are currently no elements that could lead to postponing the general elections initially scheduled for April 11.
In statements to Ideele Radio, the official indicated that "the safety conditions for citizens are being evaluated" for any decision on the matter.
"I am totally convinced that experts from the Ministry of Health are working to adequately measure the data and signs of the pandemic in the country," he added.
Given its nature, the JNE cannot establish health measures and —therefore— has not issued measures related to the matter or to be implemented in the electoral process, he indicated.
