Tehri District Magistrate Mayur Dixit told ANI over the phone about the heavy landslide that struck the Totaghati area which led to traffic on Badrinath Highway being stopped.

The State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) personnel on Saturday continued to conduct rescue and relief operations in Jakhna village, which was affected after a landslide struck Langa Road near Dehradun on Wednesday, an official said on Saturday. According to the SDRF Uttarakhand Police after a villager fainted a jawan of its force carried the villager on his back to the main road and then transported him to the hospital in an SDRF vehicle.

The massive landslide that hit the Totaghati area and caused traffic on the Badrinath Highway to be suspended was described by Tehri District Magistrate Mayur Dixit.

The subsidence-sensitive spot has been demarcated with reflective tapes for the safety of vehicles and drivers are being asked to drive carefully, Traffic Inspector Praveen Alok said.

A stretch about 50 metres long on the Rishikesh-Badrinath National Highway near Pursari village is showing signs of land subsidence with cracks appearing on it.

Heavy rainfall in Chamoli district, Uttarakhand has led to parts of the Karnaprayag-Gwaldam National Highway getting washed away by the spate Pindar River, leaving commuters stranded as the lower parts of the road are being eroded continuously. Efforts are underway to clear debris and reopen the road, but further details are awaited.
