Anil Masih, who was the returning officer of the controversial Chandigarh Mayor election, tendered an unconditional apology before the Supreme Court on Friday (April 5). Masih is facing criminal.
The Supreme Court had in February quashed the decision by Anil Masih to declare a BJP candidate as Chandigarh Mayor, after a video of Masih defacing ballot papers went viral.
Anil Masih had claimed that he was in depression post-video leak (of defacing the ballot papers) and hence couldn't answer questions correctly asked by the CJI.
The repoll for the Chandigarh Municipal Corporation senior deputy mayor and deputy mayor posts was deferred on Tuesday. A plea challenging the notification on the repoll date is being heard in the Punjab and Haryana High Court.
