For transgender and gender non-conforming people, the process of changing your name and getting documents to reflect those changes can be a burden. Two new laws in Illinois aim to ease that process through marriage certificates.
Senate Bill 139 allows the removal of gendered language on marriage certificates; and House Bill 2590 allows for a person to get a new marriage certificate to reflect a legal name change.
