The Department of Internal Affairs has begun an “initial inquiry” into four Destiny Church charities with combined assets of over $5.7m.

Michael Skerrett lodged an official complaint after $400,000 given out as loans was written-off, then called a meeting of rūnaka​ members to explain his actions.

The complaint centres on “inappropriate governance” management oversight of finances, and failure to meet the compliance of various government and iwi entities.

People who have left the West Coast community say they signed legal documents under pressure - and some still there are unhappy with working conditions.
