(Shutterstock) SOMERVILLE, MA – Somerville fire crews battled a large fire Monday afternoon that spread between two housing units. Just before 3 p.m. on Monday, the Somerville Fire Department responded to a building fire at 2-4 Adrian Street, where they encountered heavy smoke coming out of the building and a fire in the basement. According to officials, the fire started in a basement mechanical room at 4 Adrian Street and then spread into the ceiling and the wall into the attached unit at 2 Adrian Street. The fire also spread onto a porch.

SOMERVILLE, MA Two firefighters were hospitalized following a three-alarm fire in Somerville early Wednesday. Fire Chief Charles Breen said firefighters responded to a Kensington Avenue home around 2 a.m. and found a heavy fire in the basement, which spread up the rear stairway. Two people were trapped on the second floor and pulled to safety, Breen said. During the rescue, two firefighters were injured and taken to Massachusetts General Hospital. They have since been released and will recover at home, Breen said. Seven more firefighters sustained minor injuries but remained on duty.
