Jason "Jay" Allen Halvorson was fatally shot around 1 a.m. June 7, 2019, near his food truck, Texas Q BBQ and Catering. Charles Edward Harris III pleaded guilty to murder and was sentenced to 25 years in prison.
"I feel sorry for you and I feel sorry for your mother and that she cries every day, too," Judy Halvorson told Kareem Byrd, who wept during much of Monday's hearing as he sat next to his attorney, David Dusek.
Kareem Byrd Jr. entered an Alford plea, meaning he maintains his innocence in the fatal shooting of Jason "Jay" Halvorson but acknowledges prosecutors have enough evidence to obtain a conviction.
