The Madison County Courthouse is here thanks to the efforts of general contractor Charles Joseph Zollinger.
Zollinger and his construction crew started work on the facility in 1919 and finished the building just five days before Christmas in 1920. To honor the event, the Courthouse Centennial Committee is honoring the event at noon, Saturday, on the courthouse stairs.
A short program is planned to honor the occasion with Madison County Commissioner John Weber and new state representative, giving a short speech. Bands from Sugar-Salem and Madison high schools will help celebrate the event by playing patriotic music and Christmas carols.
Zollingerâs grandson, Dr. Charles âJeffreyâ Zollinger, grew up hearing stories about the senior Zollinger working on the courthouse.
