Ashland Times Gazette
This season the Black River FFA poultry judging team had the opportunity to participate in two virtual judging competitions.
The poultry evaluation career development event encourages learning through activities relative to production and management, processing, marketing and food safety and quality of poultry and poultry products.
Students will complete a comprehensive exam, select live meat-type chickens for broiler breeding, evaluate and place live egg-type hens and rate the finished product by evaluating and grading ready-to-cook carcasses and parts of chickens and turkeys.
This was Black River’s first year participating in the event. In the James Madison invitational, the team earned 20th place. Out of 182 individuals, team members placed as follows: Katlyn Kubitz, 91st; Cooper McKean, 98th; Kennadi Fusco, 106th; Katie Seger, 138th; Charlie Hollan, 142nd and Sarah Racut, 174th.
