Under the B.C. Local Government Act, the by-election must be held no later than May 9. The Bear Lake Community Commission is made up of four locally-elected members, plus the director of the regional district s Crooked River-Parsnip electoral area, who sits as an ex-officio commissioner. The current members are regional district director Pat Crook and commissioners Sandra McClure, Charlie MacDougall and Herbert Franklin. The commission is responsible for managing the operation of local fire protection, street lighting, cemetery operations, community water services, creation facilities and the ambulance station. The commissioner elected by by-election will serve until the next local government general election on Oct. 15, 2022.
