CHARLOTTESVILLE (WINA) – The Charlottesville Police Civilian Review Board in a joint session with City Council discussed increased powers over those under current bylaws, in light of legislation the General Assembly passed in the fall special session granting such board more powers. The current city CRB bylaws are based on what state law was before, and board members and many city residents want the panel to have more power. Police Chief RaShall Brackney urges caution, though, with the language to make sure police officers have due process… and that they are not subject to two hearings processes that other city employees don’t have through HR.
