The Tennessee Sports Writers Association has released the all-state teams for boys and girls basketball as well as wrestling, with a total of 18 — nine boys and nine girls — Chattanooga-area players earning recognition in basketball and an astounding 52 in wrestling.

When the Knox County school board met earlier this month, members hit a tense 4-4 deadlock on a series of votes.

Tennessee law allows Knox Prep to be funded by local taxpayer dollars with light oversight by the school board.

As Knox County debates a possible new charter school, here are issues that have been raised.

On Thursday, the Knox County Board of Education is expected to vote on whether to allow an all-boys charter school to open its doors in the county.

If approved, Knox Prep will be the first all-boys public school and the first charter school in the county open to high school students.

Knox Prep emphasized in its charter school application that it hopes to educate a student population that they argue is not being well-served.

The charter school, Knox Prep, would be open to 105 new 6th grade boys every year and run through high school.

"Knox Prep would do more harm than good for students, neighborhoods, and the district itself," the NAACP wrote in a letter to the school board.

Students learned how medical careers arent limited to being a doctor or nurse and that there are many other options.
