It is not surprising that some Indian media outlets are adopting an overly optimistic outlook for economic ties between India and the US, after some reports showed the US has surpassed China to become Indias top trading partner in 2021-22. However, those media outlets may have deliberately overlooked a fact: The faster-than-expected widening in the US trade deficit with India, a hidden danger to the bilateral ties and to India.

The US has devised tools that could serve as a facade for its hegemonic political agenda, and the Human Rights Watch (HRW) is one of them. With all its hypocrisy and political manipulation, HRW has demonstrated what it is really watching.

As a country outside the region but seeking global hegemony, the US only cares how Southeast Asia serves its strategy in containing and cracking down on China. This can explain why the US has lost the trust of regional countries.
