Today I mounted studless snow tires on my 2022 Kia Sorento plug-in hybrid (PHEV). I live in the Seattle area, which does get snow and more so black ice and slick roads in winter. I also make trips into and over the mountains of the Pacific Northwest, which sometimes requires both all-wheel drive and snow tires (or chains). Now I have the first of multiple data points to share about the impact on range these tires can have.

These days, nearly every car maker has months long waits for many of their new vehicles. It is due of course to lingering supply chain problems that resulted from the COVID-19 pandemic and recent conflicts that have disrupted semiconductor manufacturing and the supply of certain raw materials. I drove my own EV to our meet up and I got to drive his EV6 and compare it to my Tesla Model 3. I found a lot to like about the EV6.

My wife and I are taking a road trip to Walla Walla for some wicked fun in Washington wine country. We’re going all electric on this trip and meeting up with friends who are also driving their new EV for our first post-Covid getaway together. I’m intending to measure the real world, long distance freeway only range for my 4 and ½ year old EV.
