Two dead, eight injured in multiple-vehicle pileup

Two people died and eight were injured in an accident involving multiple vehicles on the Sibin Expressway (Highway No. 61) yesterday morning, the Yunlin County Police Bureau said.
At 7:31am, the Chiayi County Fire Department received a report of a deadly accident at the 254km marker on the expressway’s northbound lanes, near the border between Yunlin and Chiayi counties, the bureau said.
Seven trucks and 13 passenger vehicles were involved in the collision, it said.

Doctors are urging older people and those with a history of cardiopulmonary disease to dress warmly and monitor their health after reports of several deaths resulting from the current cold front.
The Chiayi County Fire Department was called on Wednesday morning after family members found an 80-year-old woman not breathing in their home in Budai Township (布袋).
The woman was not hospitalized because she showed no vital signs when firefighters arrived, the fire department said.
