First, let’s dispense with the offensive and shallow attempts to juxtapose two mass shootings — the July 3 mall killings by a 22-year-old man of three people in Copenhagen, where guns are very hard to get, and the killings by a 21-year-old man of at least seven people the next day at a suburban Chicago Fourth of July parade — to insist that restricting access to weapons doesn’t prevent carnage.

The alleged gunman who opened fire at a suburban Chicago Fourth of July parade, killing seven people and wounding dozens in the process, traveled to the Madison area following the shooting, officials said Tuesday.

Police have named the man suspected of killing at least six people and seriously injuring dozens more at a Fourth of July parade in a Chicago suburb.
