Newly retired DIG joins Anambra gov race, registers with APC

Punch Newspapers Sections Tony Okafor, Awka A retired Deputy Inspector General of Police, Celestine Okoye, has joined the All Progressives Congress in Anambra State. The retired DIG on Wednesday registered as a member of the APC at his polling unit of Ward 3, Awka, in the Awka South Local Government Area. “We should stop deceiving ourselves with APGA for it cannot take Anambra and the South-East anywhere. “I’m interested in the area of strategies on how to win the election and bring Anambra APC to the centre.” Read Also Ejidike said, “We cannot continue to be on the sidelines. APC has done so much for South-East and Anambra State in areas of infrastructural development.  And the only way we can get more is to join the mainstream and 2023 is a sure banker for Igbo as it regards the Presidency.”

Punch Newspapers Sections Published 6 February 2021 TONY OKAFOR examines the renewed battle for the Anambra State Government House and the struggle for party tickets by some of the state’s leading politicians Before the release of the timetable and schedule of activities for the Anambra State governorship election by the Independent National Electoral Commission, subtle campaigns to succeed Governor Willy Obiano have become an open affair. According to the January 19, 2021 INEC timetable, political parties participating in the election are expected to hold their primaries between June 10 and July 21, 2021, while the governorship election is slated to hold on November 6. As it is to be expected, political party offices which before now were dormant have become a beehive of activities.

Anambra 2021: Onunkwo declares to run on APC platform

Onunkwo made the formal declaration at a meeting with the State Working Committee of the party at its office in Awka on Friday. He said he was at the party Secretariat to inform them that he would join other aspirants in the APC primary election and expressed hope that he would clinch the ticket. He tasked the party leadership on free, fair, just and acceptable primary in which every contestant would have equal advantage as only that would guarantee the support of others for the eventual winner. Onunkwo said he was in the race to provide answers to the leadership question in Anambra assuring the party that he would serve the people above himself.
