About 10 rooms on the hotel s two floors were damaged.
“My hope is that they can occupy spaces not affected by the fire,” he said.
The state fire marshall’s office and Barnstable Police are assisting in investigating the fire.
The Newport Hotel Group has owned the hotel since 1999. Scott Alemany, the hotel s corporate director of operations, could not be reached for comment Monday.
Plagued by fires
The hotel has been plagued by fires in the past. In November 2016, a portion of the hotel was damaged in a three-alarm fire that started in the wall between the second and third floors on the Bay Street side of the building and made its way to the attic.

The cause of the fire has yet to be determined, but Hyannis fire Chief Peter Burke said it is not believed to be suspicious in nature.
The Hyannis Fire Department responded to a fire alarm activation just before 2 p.m. Sunday.
Firefighters battled the fire on the first floor, and the fire eventually extended to the attic. Guests and staff were evacuated from the hotel, and there were no injuries.
Burke said he wasn t sure if guests had been staying in the room where the fire started.

HYANNIS, MA The Hyannis Harbor Hotel sustained significant damage in a fire Sunday, requiring the help of 50 firefighters across Cape Cod to put it out.
Emergency officials were called to the fire at 213 Ocean St., around 2:30 p.m. Photos showed flames erupting through the roof of two-story hotel.
But fire officials said wind gusts strengthened the flames, and by 3:50 p.m., the fire went to five alarms, requiring 10 local fire departments to help put it out.

Fire Chief Peter Burke told Fox 25 News the fire was contained to one wing of the hotel, but it quickly spread from the first floor up to the second floor and into the attic. Burke said hotel guests were evacuated and no injuries were reported.
