HYANNIS – Damage to the Hyannis Harbor Hotel is estimated to be in the millions following a five-alarm fire Sunday afternoon at the Ocean Street property. The cause of the fire has yet to be determined, but Hyannis fire Chief Peter Burke said it is not believed to be suspicious in nature. The Hyannis Fire Department responded to a fire alarm activation just before 2 p.m. Sunday. Firefighters battled the fire on the first floor, and the fire eventually extended to the attic.  Guests and staff were evacuated from the hotel, and there were no injuries. Burke said he wasn t sure if guests had been staying in the room where the fire started.

Emergency officials were called to the fire at 213 Ocean St., around 2:30 p.m. Photos showed flames erupting through the roof of two-story hotel. But fire officials said wind gusts strengthened the flames, and by 3:50 p.m., the fire went to five alarms, requiring 10 local fire departments to help put it out. Burke said hotel guests were evacuated and no injuries were reported.
