Complaints about illegal fireworks in Elgin around the Fourth of July holiday were down more than 25% compared to last year, Elgin police say. Police received 272 calls for service regarding fireworks July 1-4, down from 373 last year.
After a month-long effort to educate residents and curb the use of illegal fireworks, the Elgin Police Department reported that complaint numbers were down overall compared to 2021, though the pace picked up over the holiday weekend.
