Brig. Gen. Roque Eduardo Vega, PRO-7 regional director, said in a statement released on Tuesday night his office recorded only 629 cases of violence involving women and children from January to May of 2022, as compared to 1,769 for the same period last year. Data from the Regional Women and Children Protection Desk showed a significant decline of 64.44 percent in the total number of VAWCs. Vega attributed the decline to consistent community engagements of police units, particularly the Women and Children Protection Desks that are actively engaging stakeholders on gender and development.
