While alcohol consumption has dropped in Australia over the past decade, it s still a major driver of disease. But the main tool we have to address risky drinking isn t well used, it s time-consuming for GPs and other practitioners who are already stretched. And what s more, there s not great evidence that it even works that well. But with nearly 5% of the total burden of disease in Australia attributable to alcohol, what should we be doing? Dr Chris Holmwood has been looking into this. He s the director of Clinical Partnerships for Drug and Alcohol Services South Australia, and I spoke to him earlier.
