Hancock Grammar School student to compete in Maine State Spelling Bee
HANCOCK
That is where Hancock Grammar School eighth-grader Makenna McDevitt is headed.
After winning the Hancock County Spelling Bee at the end of February, McDevitt is preparing for the Maine State Spelling Bee on March 25 at 6 p.m.
“I think I’m a little nervous, but less so since it’s going to be online this year,” McDevitt said.
She said she is also “a little excited because I’ve never gotten this far before.”
But she has gotten close.
Last year, McDevitt was runner-up at the Hancock County bee, narrowly missing the chance to qualify for the state competition.
