The thing most clear about Tim Arnold’s explanation of the historical decisions about the Sheraton is it’s all about the money (‘Pa Ariki acted in good faith, Crown must follow suit’, Cook Islands News, November 18). He didn’t deny she (Pa Ariki) received payments; he is arguing she didn’t receive enough money.

Mr. Tim Arnold’s response to concerns around the redirection of the road around the so-called Sheraton site in Wednesday’s paper (Lawyer warns against interference, Sheraton road relocation approval stands: Arnold, Cook Islands News, November 8) comes across as heavy handed. From what I’ve read and heard, the facts of the matter would appear to be:

I have been following the news regarding the Main Road diversion being insisted upon by Pa Ariki and her lawyers, as well as her latest developer. It has been heartwarming to see the public of Rarotonga rise up and oppose a road diversion that is not in the public interest.
Every man and his dog are commenting on the old Sheraton site and its development and rightly so because prior to the announcement the current ring road will cut in behind the complex, everyone was happy to see the site being cleaned up, writes Ruta Mave.
