The Chicago White Sox are expected to announce the hire of their new manager, Pedro Grifol, later this week, ESPN s Buster Olney reports. Grifol, 52, has been on the Kansas City Royals coaching staff since 2013, most recently serving as the club s bench coach. Tony La Russa announced last month that he would not return as the White Sox manager, following two seasons with the club. The White Sox considered Miguel Cairo, Houston Astros bench coach Joe Espada and New York Yankees bench coach Carlos Mendoza for the position, before selecting Grifol as their next manager.
Two-year starter is a long-armed perimeter defensive back who may be at his best in more of a supportive role in the secondary instead of being the key defender.
