mccarthy actually just hit everything in an appendix to the document. according to punchbowl news, quote, secret three-page addendum to the rules package that mccarthy and his allies hashed out during several days of grueling negotiations with the house freedom caucus. it includes the most controversial concessions mccarthy made in order to come speaker, three seats on the rules committee for conservatives, freezing spending at fiscal year 2022 levels, a debt ceiling strategy, coveted community assignments, and more. now, to be clear here, the rules back as public, but this, the secret three-page deal, no, you and i do not get to see this, the actual sacred governing document of the new maga run house republican caucus. in fact, not even clear of all the republican members got to see. it too bad.
remember, that republican steering the committee told axios this afternoon, he doesn t know if everybody has received a copy. now, it seems pretty clear, government currently has said one thing in public, and then publicly avoid available portion of the rules package, but said something very different in his secret deals laid out in the secret document. for example, last week, mccarthy insisted he was not going to give away any committee assignments in the deals to become speaker. last night, i was presented the only way to have donald and 18 votes, if i provided certain members with certain positions certain gavels to take certain budgets. and they even came to the position where one matt gaetz
deciding factor on what goes to the floor? so, there will committee is split 9 to 4, the majority is nine, the minority has four. i mean, most of the legislation that mccarthy has proposed are things that we are against. i mean, he wants to make it easier, you know, to impact corporations. he wants to deny women their right to an abortion. i go on and on. the bottom line, democrats who are going to vote no on those things, if three republicans vote no, the bill doesn t go anywhere. they will vote no because it s not extreme enough. but the bottom line is these are very, very important positions for them to have secured, because what they can do by threatening to take his speakership away, not only one person has to, you know, bring a resolution to the floor, they may be able to vacate the chair. what they can t do their, they will do in the rules committee. so, he gave away everything. so, here is my other question. the aspect of the rules that were voted on today, and passed, and
not vote for it. that said, we will certainly be feeling its effects. congressmen jim mcgovern is democrat of massachusetts. he previously shared the house rules committee. he now serves as the top democrat on that committee. and he joins me now. congressman, i want to bend over backwards, to be fair here. perhaps, it is the case that secret rules rioters documents existed in all congress has, and i m just making a big deal on this right now. you re shaking your head. have you ever done one of these before? well, first of all, it s good to be with you. when i proposed the rules package, there was nothing that was secret. there were no backroom deals. and in fact, my rules package actually had some republican support. so, i m anxious, just like you are, to find out what s it with a secret document. i mean, the rules package that we voted on tonight was bad enough. it was a total giveaway to the most extreme elements of the
having me back. the very first thing that comes to mind, you know, watching that we said, it s been a week since we select the speaker. and all the back and forth, you know, the factions within the party. this is going to be a congress that is filled with grievances and not governing. and i don t see how government harvey is actually gonna get anything accomplished. there is a long list of grievances including this committee to investigate. as a member of the january 6th committee myself, i would not be a bit surprised, you know, if they come after me and my colleagues for performing our duties on that committee. and, you know, let them have added. the truth is, you know we, performed the work we have to do to cover the facts so we are on the right side of history. the other thing that strikes my mind, and it s a little bit ironic in the cellar similarity of names, it s like we entered a whole new era of mccarthyism
