Release Date: August 2020 Number of Cigars Smoked For Review: 3 Removing the Micallef A from its cello reveals a dark and mottled espresso brown wrapper that is extremely dry to the touch, albeit relatively smooth. There is almost no oil noticeable, but it does sport a slight box press and the cigar feels heavy in my hand, with so much tobacco it almost seems like it is bursting at the seams. The aroma from the wrapper and foot is full of strong cocoa nibs, leather, oak, dry leaves, brewed blac...

In 2013, L’Atelier Imports announced a new version to its namesake L’Atalier LAT line, Selection Spéciale. It was introduced in a 5 5/8 x 46 corona gorda size—which at the time wasn’t offered in the normal LAT line—and featured a much darker wrapper than the regular line. In this case, that came in the form a higher priming version of the Ecuadorian Sancti Spiritus wrapper that the regular line uses. Primings refer to the vertical position of the leaves on a plant, meaning that thes...

Release Date: November 2020 Number of Cigars Smoked For Review: 3 I’m immediately intrigued by the tightly coiled bun of tobacco that rises up from the head of the cigar, as it is about as perfectly crafted as I have seen on a cigar. Below that, the wrapper leaf has a bit of mottling, some decent tooth and the occasional prominent vein, but nothing about it would stop me from picking it out of the box. There is a bit of oiliness for the fingers while the sheen is minor, though the varies from...

Release Date: October 2018 Number of Cigars Smoked For Redux: 1 I’m not sure, but this might be the first time that the lid on the coffin containing this cigar has been opened since we acquired it. It feels like there’s a little notch holding the sliding piece in place, and once removed the cigar is revealed, still in its cellophane. Once that is removed, the ribbon foot band needs to be removed, the first of three bands that the cigar wears, and which collectively obscure a good amount of ...

Release Date: November 2020 Number of Cigars Smoked For Review: 3 Covered in a gorgeous milk chocolate brown wrapper that has quite a bit of tooth, the CAO Vision features numerous veins running up and down its length. There is very little noticeable oil present and one sample has a small soft spot located halfway between the main band and foot band. The aroma from the wrapper and foot is a combination of sweet cedar, cocoa nibs, leather, barnyard, hay, earth and graham cracker sweetness, while...

Release Date: November 2020 Number of Cigars Smoked For Review: 3 Cameroon is not the prettiest-looking wrapper. In fact, I often think the uglier the Cameroon wrapper, the better cigar will be. That being said, this is a pretty rendition of Cameroon. It’s maybe not as pretty as an Ashton Heritage Puro Sol, but it’s better-looking than most Cameroon wrappers. There’s a bit of discoloration and spotting towards the top of two cigars, but otherwise, it’s about all you could hope for in t...

Release Date: October 2020 Number of Cigars Smoked For Review: 3 My eye starts by being drawn to the sun on the band, as it is the brightest spot on the entire cigar, and it seems as if from there things progressively get darker including the black background of the bands and the very dark Connecticut broadleaf wrapper. The wrapper leaf is fairly toothy, while veins are noticeable but largely obscured by the bands. With the bands removed from the cigar, the wrapper shows a more rustic look due ...

Release Date: September 2020 Number of Cigars Smoked For Review: 3 The entire Desvalido Toro package is quite unique with its smooth mocha brown wrapper and purple band sporting the outline of a rooster in gold. The cigar is slightly spongy when squeezed and while there is a bit of oil present, there is not near enough to make it one of the first things I notice. Aroma from the wrapper is a combination of strong cocoa nibs, barnyard, generic nuts, creamy earth, sweet manure and hay, while the c...

Release Date: Oct. 28, 2020 Number of Cigars Released: 500 Boxes of 50 Cigars (25,000 Total Cigars) Number of Cigars Smoked For Review: 3 While this may not be the darkest HVC I’ve ever seen, it certainly is on the darker side of most of the habano café wrappers I see from the TABSA factory. The aroma from the wrapper is full with notes of barnyard, sandpaper, very dark chocolate and a bit of brown rice. The foot is sweeter, though only medium-full. It has notes of graham cracker, cinnamon, ...
