The unit at the James Paton Memorial Hospital has been closed for over a year due to staff shortages. Residents have to travel to Grand Falls-Windsor nearly 100 kilometres away for care.
The Newfoundland and Labrador Health Authority announced babies will once again be delivered in Gander later this year, as it officially reopens an obstetrics unit.
Residents of Gander and the surrounding area want to make sure Health Minister Tom Osborne's promise to keep obstetrics units open in the community and Grand Falls-Windsor wasn't just empty words and they took to the streets Tuesday to show it.
