HALLOWELL City councilors spoke with a consultant Monday night in preparation for Hallowell’s upcoming search for a city manager.
David Barrett, a consultant with the Maine Municipal Association, met with the City Council during a meeting over the Zoom videoconferencing platform.
Doug Ide appointed Hallowell’s interim city manager
The current Code Enforcement Officer was appointed as the Interim City Manager at a special meeting of the City Council on Monday.

HALLOWELL Current city Code Enforcement Officer Doug Ide was appointed to the position of interim city manager Monday.
The unanimous decision came after a 25-minute executive session at the beginning of a special meeting via Zoom. Ide, who is also a selectman in Manchester, has been city’s code enforcement officer for more than four years.
Ide will take over for outgoing City Manager Nate Rudy, who is leaving the position to become the town manager of Gray.
Hallowell struggles to find permanent code enforcement help
The city is having a difficult time finding the right person to serve as the city s permanent code enforcement officer because of a dearth of applicants that have both field experience and state certifications.

HALLOWELL Dick Dolby joked that he was going to charge the city double for his services as interim code enforcement officer when he was introduced to the City Council in June.
Hallowell is having a hard time finding someone for the permanent position.
